Writing studio + editorial review
Write the book. Keep the receipts.
Écrivain is a writing studio for serious nonfiction. Seven editorial agents review each chapter, a research library records what every claim rests on, and consistency checking runs across the whole manuscript — not one chapter at a time.
Statistic without a citation
“Roughly 47 percent of new practices close within three years.”
Fact Checker
Mixed spelling: “organise” and “organized”
Both appear in this chapter. Pick one for the book.
Consistency Agent
Long sentence (47 words)
Consider splitting after “without delay”.
Line Editor
Why this exists
A long book breaks in the gaps between chapters
Most tools check a page. Books fail across them — a name spelled two ways in chapter 19, a statistic nobody can source by proof stage.
The usual setup
- ✕ A word processor that checks grammar inside one paragraph
- ✕ Sources in a folder, a browser tab, and your memory
- ✕ “Which chapter did I define that in?”
- ✕ An AI that rewrites your voice and calls it an improvement
- ✕ Finding the unsourced claim after it is typeset
With Écrivain
- ✓ Seven agents, each reviewing one dimension of the craft
- ✓ A library where each source carries its own verification standing
- ✓ Consistency checked across every chapter at once
- ✓ Suggestions you accept or dismiss — nothing rewrites itself
- ✓ Claims flagged as unsourced while you can still fix them
Editorial agents
Seven readers, each with one job
Run them on a chapter or the whole book. Every finding quotes your own sentence, says which agent raised it, and waits for your decision.
Developmental
Structure, pacing and argument at chapter level.
Line Editor
Clarity, rhythm and sentence-level craft.
Copy Editor
Grammar, punctuation and house style.
Fact Checker
Claims that need a source before publication.
Consistency
Names, terms and facts that disagree across the book.
Subject Matter
Domain accuracy and regulated language.
Accessibility
Readability, structure and inclusive language.
Your own
The model behind every agent is a configuration choice — Claude, Gemini or GPT.
Research & provenance
Know what every claim rests on
A bibliography that looks finished while resting on unchecked sources is worse than one that is obviously unfinished. Écrivain refuses to let the first happen quietly.
Sources carry a standing
Every source is unverified until a person says otherwise. A disputed source cannot back a claim at all.
Claims are recorded, not inferred
A citation stores the assertion in your words, so rewriting the sentence never changes what the source was held to support.
Drift is visible
Edit the text a citation points at and it is flagged — rather than quietly pointing at a sentence you deleted.
Consistency across the whole book
Declare that this book says “the Board”, not “the board” or “Board of Directors”. The scan reads every chapter at once and tells you where each variant appears — the failure a per-chapter pass structurally cannot see.
Your vocabulary, not a guess
Terms are declared by you, never inferred. Software that decides for itself which spelling is canonical will eventually “correct” a deliberate one — and in a book about language, that is not a small mistake.
How it works
From a draft to a reviewed manuscript
Bring your draft
Import a Markdown manuscript and it splits into chapters. Anything the importer cannot carry is reported, never dropped silently.
Write
A clean editor with your chapters beside it. Every save is versioned, and any version can be restored.
Review
Run one agent or all seven. Findings quote your sentence and point at the exact passage.
Decide
Accept a fix or dismiss it. An accepted edit travels through the same versioned, reversible save as anything you type.

Questions
Frequently asked
Does the AI rewrite my book?
No. Every finding is a suggestion you accept or dismiss. An accepted edit travels through the same versioned, reversible save as anything you type by hand, so it is never permanent and never silent.
Which AI model do you use?
The provider is a configuration choice — Claude, Google Vertex or OpenAI — and can be swapped without changing anything else. Reviews on the free plan currently run local heuristics: long sentences, passive voice, unsourced figures, mixed spelling. Those find real problems but cannot assess an argument, and the product says so where the findings appear rather than burying it here.
Can I get my manuscript out?
Yes, at any time, as Markdown — and the round-trip is tested, not asserted: a manuscript is imported, exported and compared byte for byte in the test suite. PDF, EPUB and DOCX are in development.
Is my unpublished manuscript used to train anything?
No. Your text is sent to the configured review provider only when you run a review, and only the chapter being reviewed. Fonts and assets are self-hosted, so loading the studio does not tell a third party what you are writing.
What happens if a review fails?
The credits are refunded automatically, and the failure is recorded as a failure. A review that silently produced nothing would be indistinguishable from a clean chapter, which is the worst possible reading.
What is a credit worth?
A single-agent run is 5 credits, a chapter review 10, a whole-book review 40. Pricing is introductory while real model costs settle.
Can I use it for fiction?
You can, and the line, copy and consistency agents work on any prose. The fact-checking and citation tooling is built for nonfiction, so that part will sit unused.
Is it finished?
No, and the site above says exactly which parts are not. Writing, review, research and consistency work today; export, design, collaboration and publishing are in development.
